Water-Energy Resiliency for Agricultural Systems
This white paper focuses on energy-water implications of agricultural water supply needs and nutrient management.
Challenges include agricultural water use and consumption, energy-water relationships in agriculture, and water quality impacts on drinking water and surface water.
Near-term opportunities include balancing the agricultural sector and emerging industrial sector water needs with water availability and scarcity, predicting and managing change in agricultural energy-water demands, strategic technologies to conserve water and provide new recycled water supplies, improve chemical management and recovery of critical materials
Success measure include an increase in the number of studies and coverage of geospatial analyses that evaluate strategies for agricultural water resilience and environmental impact.
